The paralogical both/and approach to awakening that I am pioneering urges you to both know your self and show your self. It’s about both self-realization and self-expression. It is about waking up to oneness so we can more fully enter into separateness. It is a path of loving being and being loving.
Outdated spiritual traditions urge us to retreat from life to cultivate a detached state of enlightenment, but I'm interested in cultivating a passionate state of 'enlivenment', in which we feel inspired, creative, and engaged with the challenges we face on the life journey.
Being deep awake feels great. It’s appreciating how pleasurable it is to simply be. It’s really savouring the senses. Just to breathe feels delicious. To be alive is WOW! Yet enlivenment is much more than a good feeling. It is daring to embrace both joy and suffering.
When I listen closely I hear the WOW of life expressing itself in many different tones of voice. There is the ecstatic WOW of elation and the subdued WOW of sadness. The intoxicating WOW of hope and the sobering WOW of disappointment. The warm WOW of intimacy and the piercing WOW of loss. The great song of life passes between the major and the minor modes; and when we are deep awake we are stirred by both.
